Market averages from Optimal Blue OBMMI, not a quote from Ryan Schmid Mortgage. Rates change daily and are not an offer to lend. Ryan Schmid, NMLS 1518608, Neighborhood Loans. Equal Housing Opportunity.
But that's probably the least interesting thing about me.
I got into this work sideways, the way most people do. I liked numbers. I liked people more. Turns out a mortgage is both — a spreadsheet wrapped around one of the biggest decisions a family ever makes.
What I actually enjoy is the part nobody advertises: the phone call where somebody explains their whole situation in one long run-on sentence, apologizes for rambling, and then hears a plan for the first time. The shoulders drop. That's the good part.
Here's what I think people deserve from a lender.
A straight answer. A returned call. A number that doesn't quietly change three weeks later. Someone who explains the weird word instead of using it twice more in the same sentence. And the freedom to ask a question without immediately being enrolled in a nurture sequence.
And here's what drives me nuts.
Lenders who go quiet. Portals that ask for the same statement four times. Rates advertised for a person who doesn't exist. Buyers made to feel stupid for not knowing an industry's private vocabulary. I can't fix the whole industry. I can run my corner of it like a human being.
What working with me looks like.
You text me. I answer — often faster than you'd expect and occasionally later than I'd like, because I have a life too. We figure out what you're actually trying to do. I tell you the truth about where you stand. Then we either get moving, or we build a short list of things to knock out first and circle back.
